Answers to Your Most Frequently Asked Questions about Toof's Anaesthesia-Free Dental Cleaning for Dogs!
You'd think we would keep this an industry secret, but Toof is very transparent about our techniques. We use a swaddling technique, where the dog is tightly wrapped in a microfibre non slip blanket, which triggers the Vagus Nerve, activating the parasympathetic nervous system. Taking the dog into a quiet restful state
The swaddle technique, that tight hug around the dog,, activates the Vagus Nerve, triggering the parasympathetic nervous system which takes the body into rest and digest
Yes, it absolutely is. We prioritise a calm, soothing environment throughout the entire process. From gentle handling to ensuring familiar comforts, we do everything to keep your pet relaxed and at ease.
There is no downtime.
As Toof Petcare doesn’t use anaesthetic or sedation, your dog can return to their normal routine immediately after their session.
Easy answer is no, you can grab a coffee, do a lap of the shops or relax at home and the toof team will let you know when we are 15 mins off finishing up the treatment
No — Toof Petcare does not perform extractions.
If we identify a tooth that may require removal or further treatment, we will recommend veterinary care and guide you on the next steps.
This treatment can take up to 75 minutes depending on the dogs temperament, size, and condition of the teeth.
In most cases, one appointment with Toof Petcare is enough to significantly improve your dog’s oral hygiene and return teeth to a clean, healthy baseline.
From there, maintenance is tailored — depending on your dog’s age, existing build-up, overall health, and temperament.
If more advanced disease is present, we may recommend veterinary intervention before continuing with Toof care.

During your pre-appointment consult, we assess for any teeth that may be loose or require further attention.
If something is identified during the session, we will pause immediately and contact you. If extraction or medical treatment is needed, we’ll recommend veterinary care, and you can decide how you’d like to proceed.
Most dogs may find certain areas (like the front teeth) a little uncomfortable — similar to humans — but it isn’t painful.
If your dog shows any signs of discomfort or a sensitive area is detected, the session is stopped immediately and we’ll contact you to decide the next step together.
Toof petcare looks for 3 key signs your dog is due for a clean:
Bad breath
Bad dog breath isn’t normal. If your dog’s breath smells, it’s time to book.
Discoloured teeth
Brown, yellow or green build-up isn’t meant to be there — that’s calcified tartar, trapping bacteria and causing odour.
The thin red line
A red line along the gums is often overlooked, but it’s a sign of inflammation and bacteria build-up — and a strong indicator your dog needs a clean.
Toof specialises in gentle anesthesia-free cleanings, focusing on early intervention and maintenance. Unlike traditional vet dentals, we don’t use sedation, making it ideal for routine care, especially for pets who may not tolerate anesthesia well.
If plaque has already calcified on your dog’s teeth, it’s hard to remove without a full scale and polish. Dental sticks and drops can help with maintenance, but it’s not one-size-fits-all—every dog’s needs differ.
While Toof Petcare suggests appropriate diets for different breeds and sizes, the best prevention is a routine of regular brushing and suitable chew treats tailored to your dog.
